There’s more than just HDTVs on the way from Samsung this year, it’s also picked today to reveal the price and ship dates for its Samsung Apps -equipped Blu-ray HTIB systems (HT-C7530W pictured above and all due in March or April) and HDMI 1.4-equipped 3D passthrough compatible receivers. Even though the cool kids are already on to HDMI 1.4 a , that should be good enough to pass through 3D video and handle audio all in one cable so if you’re planning a whole home theater revamp before Avatar comes home in 3D ( whenever that is ) you’ll probably want to grab one with the feature . Other than the 7.1 channel HW-C770BS for $549 shipping this month, there’s also a $499 HW-C900 model with multi-zone and video upscaling features for $499, though when it will arrive is still TBD. Planning on buying one of those fresh Samsung 3D HDTVs and Blu-ray players now that they are available ? Well, the good news from Samsung’s press conference is that you’ll get a free 3D Starter Kit if you decide to fork over the cash for them both. Included are two pairs of active shutter glasses (available separately for $150 ) and the 3D Blu-ray version of Monsters vs. Aliens , which is exclusive to Samsung for the time being. And speaking of new 3D titles, DreamWorks’ own Jeffrey Katzenberg took stage to announce that Shrek will be coming soon. We’re not sure how we feel about these super expensive sets, but the hands-on pictures of the kit do seem to make spending plus $2,000 for that new Sammy 3DTV and Blu-ray player a bit more enticing. Enjoy your CES peek at Samsung’s ultrathin 9000 series LED-lit LCD HDTV , with its touchscreen, video displaying remote control (also available as a $350 add-on for the 7000, 8000,and 750 series televisions) and 3D capability? That’s good, because bringing the 55-inch UN55C9000 home in April will cost you a cool $6,999 (the thrifty can slum it with the 46-inch version for $5,999.) Still, if you’re just looking to jump in on 3D without spending the max money, the cheapest model available at first will be the standard LCD LN46C750 available in May. In between, there’s all manner of LED (most of them listed above, both with and without 3D capabilities) or old-school CCFL backlit LCDs plus a healthy lineup of plasmas arriving over the next few months, so with a note that grabbing 3D Blu-ray player and display at the same time will net a couple free pairs of active shutter glasses and a copy of the Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Blu-ray, check Samsung’s site for each type to see what your budget can handle. We’ve already seen Sony’s newest Blu-ray players turn up at retail , and it looks like they’ve now been joined by LG, Panasonic and Samsung’s latest offerings. Those include the BD590, BD570 and BD550 from LG, the DMP-BD85 and DMP-BD65 from Panasonic, and a lone BD-C6500 from Samsung, although that’s just the first of more to come from the company. No surprises with the prices or specs, but you can check out a slew of in-the-wild shots at the link below, or head down to your local Best Buy (or other retailer) to see if you’re able to spot any of them first-hand yourself. Ah, Ruslan Kogan — we can’t help but want to see this starry-eyed dreamer succeed, even if we still haven’t got our Android handset. According to Australia’s APC , the man’s gunning for the iPad market with an as yet unnamed tablet of his own. The goal? A full HD, ARM 600MHz-powered capacitive touchscreen device with 512MB RAM, 2GB storage, and an SDHC card for under $200 (presumably that’s Australian dollars, meaning about $180 US). Apparently the above prototype runs Windows, Android and Ubuntu, although Windows won’t be an option if — and we do mean if — this thing ever solidifies, due to production costs. As for that display, it’s tipped to be 800 x 480, the sting of which is taken out by the unit’s 1080p HDMI output. You say you’re not in the market for a slate? Kogan’s also said to be working on networked TVs (”probably by the end of the year”) and a Blu-ray player with WiFi and YouTube widgets. As for the aforementioned Agora handset ? “[S]oon,” he says. “I can’t give a time frame on that, though. It’ll be as soon as we’re allowed to.” This is one mysterious man indeed. We can’t help but wonder when he’s going to get serious and tackle something big, like perpetual motion . Update : We just realized that this is none other than SmartQ 7 MID first handled, oh, back in May! You know who else is firmly situated on the 3D bandwagon? Acer . This fine morning the outfit has busted out two new beamers, both of which are eager and willing to be paired with NVIDIA’s 3D Vision setup for viewing in the third dimension. Outside of that, neither one is particularly awe-inspiring, but if you’ve got a 3D Blu-ray player on the brain, you might need one of these to fully complete the nerded-out basement experiment. Up first is the H5360, offering a native 1,280 x 720 resolution, a 3,200:1 contrast ratio, 2,500 ANSI lumens and an HDMI socket. The lower-end X1261 gets a lowly XGA resolution, a similar amount of brightness and a component video port. Check ‘em real, real soon for $699 and $579 in order of mention, and hop on past the break for the rest of the details. If you are looking for a projector that can do it all, then you will be happy to know that Epson ’s MovieMate 60 projector is now reduced in price. Originally, the device retails for $699, but today it was priced for only $480. The MovieMate 60 is one of Epson’s combo projectors in that it comes with a built-in DVD player. The device also features 2000 ANSI lumens, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and a 960 x 540 resolution. The DVD player can not play Blu-ray disks, but the device does come with an HDMI port to connect a Blu-ray player. Other connections include a composite, component, VGA, USB and a microphone jack for karaoke. The projector has two 10 watt speakers in order to complete the travel package. Mitsubishi ’s latest press release is filled with both joy and sorrow. Today, the company announced that they have developed a new upscaling algorithm and software that will transform full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution images into a 4K x 2K resolution. The company also announced that this technology is compatible with the new 1.4 HDMI connections and standards. The downside though is that Mitsubishi is still trying to make the software compatible with the Blu-ray format. There is no word yet if the technology will be used for Mitsubishi’s projectors, HDTVs, or both at this time. But either way, it is not information that will benefit the typical consumer. 55.5 inches of 1080p goodness would draw attention in any case, but when they’re supplemented with local dimming of an LED-backlit display, 6ms response time, a stonking 4,000:1 static contrast ratio, and an integrated Blu-ray player… well, our cup runneth over with interest. The BeoVision 7-55 is just such a monstrous, no-compromise display, and it’s recently undergone a review over at Flatpanels HD . The reviewers were giddy with the versatile motorized stand and the Blu-ray player (which opens by you waving a hand in front of it), while describing the design and execution as “truly beautiful.” Picture quality is no worse, mind you, and epithets like “extraordinary” and “fantastic” were used to describe the experience of watching HD content on this panel. The same words can also be applied to the $18,700 MSRP, but at least the review is free and can be found at the source link below. Fox has been slow to show its hand concerning the Avatar home video release schedule, but that didn’t stop director James Cameron from spilling assorted dates and SKUs in a Wall Street Journal interview. He’s pegged a standard DVD & Blu-ray release for April 22, with a special edition DVD and Blu-ray 3D version arriving in November. Considering how much electronics companies have invested in bringing 3D to market this year and specifically Panasonic’s push to make Avatar a box office smash the timing seems right on target. Whether you love the Na’Vi just a little or far, far too much , budgeting for a 3D related Black Friday upgrade to go along with blue body paint for Halloween is seeming like a more sensible option every day. And the flood gates are now officially open. Just hours after Panasonic introduced its newest 3D Blu-ray recorders and players, along comes Sony to brag about its first 3D-ready standalone deck. The BDP-S470, which is slated to ship later this month for $200, arrives with the ability to handle BD, DVD, CD and even SACD, with a 3D Blu-ray upgrade (via firmware update) planned for this summer. You’ll also find BD-Live support, BRAVIA Internet Video, a USB socket for playing back media stored elsewhere, 1080p DVD upscaling and TrueHD / DTS-HD Master Audio decoding. If you were planning to snag a BDP-S570 BD player or one of the BDV-E770W / BDV-E570 Blu-ray Disc home theater systems, you’ll be elated to know that those systems will also get a gratis 3D update in just a few months, with exact pricing and release details tucked down there in the source. Looks like Panasonic’s push to lead the 3D pack continues unabated. It’s been just over a week since the company announced the opening of its first Blu-ray 3D authoring facility and now word’s coming out of Tokyo’s Yurakucho District that the world will soon be getting not one but four devices, including the DMP-BDT900-K, a pretty straight forward player that features the latest Advanced AVC encoding engine and a generous helping of ports (including two USB, Ethernet, two HDMI outs, one component out, and an SDXC compatible memory card port). If playback alone doesn’t float your boat (and we don’t blame you), three of the new models include 3D Blu-ray recorders, including the DMR-BWT3000 (2TB), DMR-BWT2000 (1TB), and DMR-BWT1000 (750GB). All the aforementioned recorders sport 2Digital BS / 110?CS TV tuner, 1 Analog TV tuner, i.Link, SDXC memory card slot, Ethernet, VIERA Link, VOD Services, and BD-Live. Both the 2TB and 1TB models come with a pair of HDMI ports, while 750GB model owners will have to make due with one. All three are pegged to burn BD-RE discs at 1x, BD-R at 6x, and BD-R LTH, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, and DVD-R DL formats. Akihabara is reporting a street date of April 23rd, 2010. VidaBox is a digital entertainment and controls solutions company focused on manufacturing premium media centers, audio servers, and integrated home control & automation solutions. Today, the company released a new product called the ThinClientHD extender. This device allows a user to send Blu-ray and other HD content to a projector using only a CAT5 cable. The ThinClient is slim and can be easily tucked away out of sight. The CAT5 cable is your typical phone line cable and is perfectly capable of transmitting HD content. The difference between the CAT5 and an HDMI cable is that the CAT5 is a fraction of what an HDMI cable costs, making it ideal for situations that require a lot of wire. “The low cost, light-weight, and small size of the ThinClientHD™ makes it the perfect complement to any VidaBox server,” exclaims Steven Cheung, President of VidaBox, LLC. “It comes with its own VESA mounting bracket, and at less than 38mm or 1.5” thin, it can be mounted behind an HDTV, hidden above a projector, or installed virtually anywhere. Best of all, even though it’s 43% less in cost compared to our older lines of Blu-ray extenders, the ThinClientHD™ doesn’t make any sacrifices in core features.” The ThinClientHD is available through the company’s website now but the retail price has not been released. It feels like we just left our shutter glasses behind at CES, but already a few of Samsung’s new 2010 Blu-ray players (all featuring Internet@TV and Samsung Apps features) have popped up for preorders on Amazon, including the 3D playing BD-C6900 . The company just announced 240HZ 3D LCDs have begun mass production and isn’t waiting for the competition before diving in, issuing the first price we’ve seen for one of the new plays at a penny shy of $400. Moving down the line the super slim and woodgrain textured, but 2D only, BD-C7500 is also $399.99, while the speedy BD-C6500 and its promised 15 second bootup time is set for $299. The entry level and eco-focused BD-C5500 is still unpriced but instead of asking whether you can afford the price of a 3D Blu-ray player, ask yourself if you can afford not to own a Blu-ray player with a hole in the top. The answer should be obvious.
