Buffalo serves up USB-powered portable 3D Blu-ray player in Japan

September 3rd, 2010

Stuck with an ODD-less netbook or laptop, but can’t quite shake the urge to watch a Disc on your next flight? If you call Japan (or you know a good importer), Buffalo has just the solution. The BP3D-PI6U2-BK measures 137- ? 147- ? 20mm, and the operation is pretty simple. Just wrangle an XP / Vista / Windows 7-equipped PC, locate an open USB socket, blow out the dust (optional, but highly recommended) and plug this guy in. Best of all, the unit also supports the boatload of 3D titles that are bound to show up over the coming months, but the privileged of being prepared doesn’t come cheap — it’ll land later this month for ?28,500 ($338). Update : Speaking of importers… White Rabbit Express has this up for pre-order at $350 , along with a slew of other Japanese wares. Huzzah! Sharp releases slew of new Quattron TVs at IFA 2010

September 3rd, 2010

Just in case those George Takei commercials didn’t clue you in that Sharp was serious about Quattron, the company has announced four new TV lines at IFA sporting yellow as a fourth subpixel color. At the top of the list, the Quattron 3D-enabled LE925 line will be available in 60-inch or 46-inch sizes and feature Sharp’s proprietary high-speed FRED signal processing technology along with side-mounted scanning LED backlighting — which like the LV Series — is touted to produce 1.8x better brightness than competing sets and reduce 3D crosstalk. Aquos Net+ connectivity is thrown in too, along with 2D-to-3D conversion, a digital triple tuner and 8GB of built-in flash memory for timeshift recording. Playing second fiddle to this overachiever are the 2D-only LE924E, LE824E and LE814E series, which will also feature Aquos Net+. Pricing details for all of the new lines are still unknown, but they’re slated to be available in Germany and Austria later this month. Here’s hoping Sulu gets his jaw checked out before then. The 404 657: Where Santa Jobs and Kenley pay us a visit (podcast)

September 1st, 2010

Unfortunately Jeff can’t make it to the show today, but our good friend Kenley jumps into the hot seat to fill Wilson’s shoes while he pulls out his beautiful hair trying to play sound engineer for the day. Meanwhile, we’re making last minute predictions on what the Apple Music event will bring, so head over to CNET’s live blog for more details and in-depth post show coverage. The average e-mail user gets hundreds of message everyday, and while spam filters get rid of most of the junk, we’re still blasted with e-mails from work, mailing lists, Facebook, and more low-priority comments. Gmail recently rolled out a new solution to organize your messages called Priority Inbox . The Gmail feature automatically sorts your incoming e-mail into three sections: “important and unread,” “starred,” and “everything else,” and the idea is to target messages that aren’t outright spam but still aren’t important…Google cleverly calls this “bologne,” or BACN . The service also improves accuracy as you use it and will sort sort between senders you reply to and others that you just skip over, hopefully helping you sift through the piles of mail you get a day. We’ve seen plenty of strange Nintendo Wiimote accessories in the past, but the new detachable controller from a company called Mojowijo is by far the most NSFW. The device attaches to the Wii’s accessory port and uses Bluetooth to run wireless software that basically turns it into a partner-controlled “marital aid.” Its patent-pending “Motion2Vibration” technology transforms one user’s motions into vibrations signals that get sent to another selected device, even if they’re in another part of the country. Get it? Thanks again to everyone who entered our JetBlue All You Can Jet contest! We’ve selected two winners for the seven-day and five-day passes and will announce their names on tomorrow’s show where we’ll welcome hypnotist Paul Ramsay back into the studio! On his last appearance he hypnotized me into forgetting my name, so who knows what’ll happen tomorrow- tune in at 11:30 a.m. ET to find out! Screen Innovations Black Diamond Screen Can Display 3D Content

September 1st, 2010

Sponsors

Screen Innovations is the leader in projection screen technology. Today, the company announced that their Black Diamond screen material is now able to provide amazing 3D viewing experiences. The major complaint with 3D content being shown through a projector is that it needs to be a dark room in order for the 3D affect to work properly. But Screen Innovations is claiming that is not true anymore with their Black Diamond screen. The screen material comes with a new reflective surface, which allows to use the polarized 3D method. The material also enhances the natural contrast of the projector by 900%. The company claims that this screen is the only one of its kind. Retail prices and a release date have not been announced. Crave 16: Where my baby daddy? (podcast)

September 1st, 2010

It may not be a creepy Kaspar baby, but the lead item on today’s show is its very own brand of disturbing: a belly band that plays music to an unborn child. It’s not the product that bothers Donald and Jasmine, though…it’s the eerily happy mother and absentee dad. Also this week: a fan-tastic subwoofer, a new MP3 player that is not a phone, and some sweet street art in Portland, Ore., that Mario-loving cyclists are sure to appreciate. Plus, we get some viewer feedback and sort of drool over this week’s heart attack-inducing foodstuff. Subscribe in iTunes SD Video |? Subscribe in RSS SD Video …
