3LCD Technology Remains Market Share Leader

Sponsors
3LCD is the world’s leading projection display technology. Today, it was announced that the technology was able to maintain its market share leadership through 2009. The data was released by Pacific Media Associates and they stated that 51 percent of the market share was held by 3LCD projectors. “2009 has been a great year for 3LCD, and our worldwide success can be attributed in part to the ongoing customer and OEM support,” said Rina Bhuva, senior strategic marketing manager, 3LCD. “As a leader in the industry for more than 20 years, our prolonged success is a sign that buyers consistently look to 3LCD to meet their demanding needs, and we continue to deliver great results with our road-tested reliable technology.” 3LCD has many advantages over other display technologies. Some of those advantages include a high color light output, portability, and it uses an energy efficient light engine. [via PR News Wire ]

OO HD wireless projector concept reaches for the stars, almost grabs ‘em (video)

David Riesenberg obviously had his head in the clouds when he dreamed up the OO High Definition Wireless Projector, but it’s not like we’re kvetching about his imagination’s ability to go far beyond the limits of most humans. For one thing, the concept 1080p projector looks (and lands ) like a stunning orange UFO; for another, the specs are otherwordly. Should the device ever come to market, Reisenberg says it will pack SSD storage, WiFi and internal decoder chips into its svelte, 11-inch round carbon fiber frame, as well as three independently articulated legs for balance and a Li-ion battery for up to three hours of cord-free HD streaming and playback. Did we mention it’s got a matching touchscreen remote? And our deepest affection, forever and ever? See what we’re drooling over in Riesenberg’s subtle video homage to a certain interstellar piano waltz right after the break. LG eXpo Projector Phone Has Been Discontinued For Now

Sponsors
The LG eXpo was supposed to be the first projector phone to be released by a major manufacturer. But just as quickly as it was released it seems that it has disappeared. For a while the stores only reported that they were out of stock, but recently the product has been pulled completely off the shelves. Both LG and AT&T state that they pulled the device because of such a high demand. However, the company that manufactured the eXpo’s fingerprint sensor feature states that the phone had major problems with its antennae. There is no word yet from anyone if the eXpo will return to the consumer market. [via Splash Phone ]

Samsung puts price tags on its next receivers, soundbars and Blu-ray HTIB systems

There’s more than just HDTVs on the way from Samsung this year, it’s also picked today to reveal the price and ship dates for its Samsung Apps -equipped Blu-ray HTIB systems (HT-C7530W pictured above and all due in March or April) and HDMI 1.4-equipped 3D passthrough compatible receivers. Even though the cool kids are already on to HDMI 1.4 a , that should be good enough to pass through 3D video and handle audio all in one cable so if you’re planning a whole home theater revamp before Avatar comes home in 3D ( whenever that is ) you’ll probably want to grab one with the feature . Other than the 7.1 channel HW-C770BS for $549 shipping this month, there’s also a $499 HW-C900 model with multi-zone and video upscaling features for $499, though when it will arrive is still TBD. Mitsubishi HC6800 Projector Review

Sponsors
One of Mitsubishi ’s home theater projectors is the HC6800 . This model features an impressive 30000:1 contrast ratio, 1500 ANSI lumens, and 1080p HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, the writers from Home Theater Magazine released their review of this projector. The first thing the writers comment about is the design. The HC6800 comes with a slightly curved chassis with recessed connection panel that is hard to reach if you mount it to the ceiling. The writers put the projector through a number of image quality tests and the only concern that they had was with the black levels. They found that the HC6800 could not go below black, which makes adjusting the image difficult. The writers were happy with the HC6800’s noise level. The 20 dB noise level is quiet enough to keep from being heard during movies. The final conclusion about the HC6800 was, “Overall, the Mitsubishi produces a pleasing picture on most sources. Even with the auto iris engaged, dark, low-contrast scenes are hazy enough to be distracting. In a direct comparison with the Epson, the latter’s superiority in shadow detail was painfully obvious. But things aren’t quite that simple. Even at roughly half the price, the Mitsubishi’s resolution of detail was noticeably crisper than the Epson’s. Resolution alone isn’t quite enough for me to push it over the top. Dark scene performance and contrast are too important to me. But with its very attractive pricing (apart from a rather high lamp-replacement cost), respectable performance on most program material, and striking detail on the best sources, the Mitsubishi just might work for you.” [via Home Theater Magazine ]

Samsung 3D Starter Kit gets 3DTV and Blu-ray buyers started

Planning on buying one of those fresh Samsung 3D HDTVs and Blu-ray players now that they are available ? Well, the good news from Samsung’s press conference is that you’ll get a free 3D Starter Kit if you decide to fork over the cash for them both. Included are two pairs of active shutter glasses (available separately for $150 ) and the 3D Blu-ray version of Monsters vs. Aliens , which is exclusive to Samsung for the time being. And speaking of new 3D titles, DreamWorks’ own Jeffrey Katzenberg took stage to announce that Shrek will be coming soon. We’re not sure how we feel about these super expensive sets, but the hands-on pictures of the kit do seem to make spending plus $2,000 for that new Sammy 3DTV and Blu-ray player a bit more enticing. Sony unveils 3DTV release dates and pricing for Japan

Sponsors
Kicking off an expected repeat flood of 3DTV info over the next few days (Samsung and Panasonic both have events scheduled over the next couple of days) Sony has revealed pricing and shipping information for its new televisions and related accessories in Japan. The new sets share that sweet/ominous monolithic style of the already available NX800 series (also announced today in Japan, along with fellow 2D-only HX700 LCD and DVR-packing BX30H televisions,) with the edge-lit LED LX900 bringing the entire 3D package. With IR emitter built in and two pairs of RealD active shutter glasses, all you’ll need to add is a source to the 60-, 51-, 46- and 40-inch models, ranging in price from ?580,000 ($6,444) to ?290,000 ($3,222.) Even if the TDG-BR100 / TDG-BR50 3D glasses (also available as an accessory for ?12,000 ($133) or so) aren’t on your face this WiFi-connected abyss of entertainment will look back into you, using face tracking to detect if someone is sitting too close and warn them to move back, as well as dimming and eventually turning off the screen if you leave the room or simply looked away from the TV for an extended period. Want to get the full 3D effect with the LED backlit HX900 and edge-lit HX800? Expect to purchase the glasses and TMR-BR100 IR emitter (?5,000 or $55) separately, or just live a 2D lifestyle and know the 3D is there if you ever want to upgrade. Feel free to wander through Sony Japan’s machine-translated website for more specs and prices of these June & July scheduled displays or alternatively, wait a little while, enjoy the trailer embedded after the break, and we should get some find out U.S.-specific details soon that will likely be considerably easier on the wallet . Samsung’s 2010 3DTVs priced from $1,700 to ridiculous and everywhere in between

Enjoy your CES peek at Samsung’s ultrathin 9000 series LED-lit LCD HDTV , with its touchscreen, video displaying remote control (also available as a $350 add-on for the 7000, 8000,and 750 series televisions) and 3D capability? That’s good, because bringing the 55-inch UN55C9000 home in April will cost you a cool $6,999 (the thrifty can slum it with the 46-inch version for $5,999.) Still, if you’re just looking to jump in on 3D without spending the max money, the cheapest model available at first will be the standard LCD LN46C750 available in May. In between, there’s all manner of LED (most of them listed above, both with and without 3D capabilities) or old-school CCFL backlit LCDs plus a healthy lineup of plasmas arriving over the next few months, so with a note that grabbing 3D Blu-ray player and display at the same time will net a couple free pairs of active shutter glasses and a copy of the Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Blu-ray, check Samsung’s site for each type to see what your budget can handle. Public Soft Release MP 220 Projector

Sponsors
Public Soft is the latest company to launch a pico projector in India. Their model is the MP 220 and it is the basic LCoS projector with a LED lamp system. What’s notable though is that this model can display up to 50 ANSI lumens and a SVGA (800 x 600) resolution, which isn’t that common to see yet. The projector has a micro SD card slot and a 1GB internal memory for wireless presentations, but is also comes with a VGA port and an AV jack for composite connections. So far it looks like the MP 220 is only available in India right now. The retail price has yet to be announced. [via India PR Wire ]
