Afterglow System Uses Lasers to Draw on Displays

One of the most interesting and also annoying devices created is the laser pen. This little device can be used to highlight items during a presentation, point out constellations in a planetarium, or drive your animals crazy. Recently a company has developed a new way to use the laser pen with a product they call Afterglow. This product is designed to be used similarly to using a SMART board, but the presenter doesn’t need to be at the screen to use it. By using cameras and a projector to display the image, the afterglow uses a custom built laser pen that allows the user to write on the screen with out touching it. The pen can write in a standard black as well as a marker, paint brush, and several other different designs. The Afterglow pen can also be used to control the mouse icon and open and close files as well as control the entire display. The software and laser pen is currently available for ordering. The only problem is that it retails for $1980. [via Oh Gizmo ]
