Barco Announces New Technology and DCI Compliance for DP2K Projectors

Barco was proud to announce recently that their DP2K projectors are now available with integrated CineCanvas subtitling support. Not only will all new projectors be installed with the technology, but also Barco will provide firmware upgrades to all existing projectors. Barco is proud to be the world’s first company to offer this technology for their projectors. Also as part of the announcement, Barco announced that their new DP2K projectors have obtained full DCI compliance. The DCI compliance only applies to the “C” projectors in the lineup, but it makes them the second set of projectors ever to achieve this goal. “Up to now, Series 2 digital projectors depended on the cinema server to render movie subtitles. In practice, this meant that subtitles sometimes had to be “burned” into each release and for each individual language version. It goes without saying that this process is not only very costly, but also forms a potential source of readability and uniformity issues,” explains Barco’s Digital Cinema Product Manager Theodore Marescaux.
