Cineplex Entertainment Installs Thirty One 3D Screens with RealD Technology

Cineplex Entertainment is one of the largest motion picture exhibitors in Canada. Today, the company announced that they will be increasing their number of 3D theaters by installing 31 more screens. The added installations will bring their digital theater total to 161 screen, with 76 being 3D theaters. This increase will give the company 55% control of the nation’s 3D digital theaters. Cineplex is hoping to complete the conversion by May 29th in order to be ready for the stampede of 3D movies that are being released this year. “With more than a dozen 3D films scheduled for release in 2009 and many more in the following years, 3D is a growing force in the motion picture exhibition industry and Cineplex Entertainment is proud to be at the forefront,” said Pat Marshall, Vice President Communications and Investor Relations, Cineplex Entertainment. “With the expansion of 3D in our circuit of theatres, Cineplex Entertainment can offer more guests this completely immersive and premium digital 3D experience in the comfort of their local theatre.” Some of the new movies expected to release this year include Disney/Pixar’s UP, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, G-Force, Final Destination: Death Trip 3D, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 (3D double feature), Disney’s A Christmas Carol, Planet 51, Avatar, and The Princess and The Frog.
