Belly Up is Aspen’s premier live venue. Recently, they installed a Digital Projection TITAN 1080p-700 projector for their custom made 16′ wide screen. The projector is designed for these large scale venues and features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and 10000 ANSI lumens. The TITAN was selected due to its exceptional performance and image quality. One of the problems that Belly Up faced was to find a safe and secure location to mount the projector so that it wouldn’t interfere with the audience. To solve this problem, Digital Projection used their RapidRig mounting frame and had it suspended from a custom welded frame of ¼” plate steel. This custom installation allows easy access to the TITAN for screen adjustments as well as lamp replacement. To finish the installation a second steel plate was installed on the projector’s underside to protect it from flying projectiles and liquids that may fly through the venue during concerts. BELLY UP, ASPEN DOUBLES AS LIVE VENUE AND SPORTS SCREENING ROOM WITH ADDITION OF NEW PRECISION PROJECTION SYSTEM “The imagery from the TITAN 1080p-700 is absolutely incredible.” - David Stys, Electronics Systems Consultants ATLANTA, GA - July 17, 2009 - Electronic Systems Consultants (ESC) , an Aspen-based firm that recently captured six awards at the recent (CEDIA) National Lifestyle Awards, completed the installation of a TITAN 1080-700 in the well-known Colorado venue Belly Up, Aspen. As Belly Up, Aspen embodies a multi-faceted venue, it also represents a major expansion of the integration services that ESC is usually called upon to supply. Traditionally a systems specific integrator and consultant, ESC was asked to manage the venue’s video integration by the owner of Belly Up, Aspen. The owner was an existing ESC cinema client, so when it came time to implement a bold visual display, ESC was his preferred integrator. The initial concept was to augment the Belly Up, Aspen’s already popular live concerts with visual presentations, sporting event screenings and private functions centered on local events such as the annual X Games. ESC selected the TITAN 1080p-700, in conjunction with a custom 16′ wide 16:9 Stewart Filmscreen, to deliver intense, large-scale imagery. When lowered, the screen completely conceals the stage area, thereby creating a clean and uncluttered screening space. David Stys, integrator with ESC, summarized why the TITAN 1080p-700 was used for this application: “The TITAN’s exceptional performance and image quality coupled with it’s wide range of capabilities and lens combinations allowed us to exceed the client’s expectations. That’s quite an accomplishment, given the particularly inflexible installation area that holds the projector.” In order to securely install the TITAN so that it didn’t interfere with audience sightlines, Digital Projection’s RapidRig mounting frame was suspended from a custom welded frame of 1/4″ plate steel and unistrut. This ensures that the projector is securely installed, plus grants easy access to all sides of the TITAN for alignment and occasional lamp replacement. The entire assembly was then further supported with safety chains as a supplemental safety precaution. Finally, an oversized custom plate was attached to the underside of the DP’s RapidRig frame to protect the TITAN from projectiles and liquids that may be seen flying through the venue during concerts and other high-energy events. The TITAN 1080-700 will be showcasing content from a variety of sources, including but not limited to: PCs, , Standard DVD, High-Def and Standard-Def Video Cameras for live camera feeds, VHS and more. Fast-paced ski, surf and cycling footage will also be shown on-screen before and after live performances. Digital Projection International will be exhibiting their full range of powerful, efficient and responsible DLP , including the TITAN 1080p-700, at the upcoming InfoComm tradeshow in Orlando, Florida at booth number 2861.
