Epson X-Desk interactive table | CNET UK Last week, Epson released their first interactive table top called the X-Desk. This week the reporters from Crave got a first hand look on what this multi-touch table can actually do. The X-Desk uses rear projection technology to display the image on table screen. It uses IR cameras to tell the computer when fingers or other placements are placed on the table. The computer than alters the image and uses an Epson projector to display a XGA (1024 x 768) resolution image onto the table. The X-Desk can have multiple users touch the table simultaneously, which makes it helpful in crowded situations. Some of the applications Epson is currently displaying include the basic media browser and a Lazy Susan style interactive menu. One of the more popular applications is the “phone shop,” which allows users to place their phone on the table and have information instantly displayed on the table. The program will display what type of phone it is as well as download all the photos and videos the phone currently has. The user can also place a second phone on the display to show a comparison screen. In addition, Epson is also displaying an interactive bar application that they designed for restaurants and bars. For this application to work, the facility will place optical tags on the bottom of their glasses that will hold specific information about what is being served. That tag is then read by the table and displays the name of your drink as well as a little light show for entertainment. The Epson X-Desk is currently available, but the retail price has not been released yet. [via Crave.Cnet ]
