Earlier this week, Samsung announced their newest projector phone, the Beam i8520 . Recently, a reporter from Laptop got a hands-on-look at the i8520. This device features a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3G network, and a 5-megapixel camera. The main feature however is the built in pico projector from Texas Instruments. The company has not yet released a lot of information about the projector’s capabilities, but we do know that it uses DLP display technology, LED lamp system, WVGA (840 x 480) resolution, and can project up to 9 ANSI lumens. The low brightness means that you will need a fairly dark room in order to use the projector. A concern though about the i8520 is that all the demos show that the phone’s screen is on the same time as the projector, which could be distracting to some. As of right now, Samsung is looking to release the i8520 sometime in the summer, but only for Asia and Europe. There is no information about when this device will come to the Americas.
