A few months ago , we wrote about the new FLCoS display chip that was being developed by Micron. Recently, a writer from CNet got to hear more about this new display technology. The Fast Liquid Crystal on Silicon (FLCoS) technology is only in the prototype stages right now, but the developers see great potential for this chip. The micro-display is designed to mix color over time, blending reds, greens, and blues in very quick sequence. The process is so quick that the human eye can only see full colors. One of the benefits on this display technology is its impressive power. Integrated into a 3M projection engine, the unit only requires 1.1 watts of energy to run and can produce 10 ANSI lumens. Unfortunately, the chip is still too big for projector phones and is also expensive to manufacture. However, many people believe that the chip will continue to shrink in size, run faster, and most importantly become cheaper to manufacturer. [via CNet ]
