Safety First Home Theater

Using a basement for a theater could be the best or the worst choice a owner could make. It keeps you from bothering the rest of the house, it’s secluded, and you can create the absolute darkness that traditional theaters have. However, basements are also prone to flooding, have no emergency exits, and don’t allow you to monitor the rest of the house. Ryan Herd of 1 Sound Choice had to face these problems when he built a theater for a owner in New Jersey. The biggest problem with the basement was the water problem. To solve this, the company installed a sump pump under the theater’s floor in order to keep the basement from flooding. In order to access the pump, a trap door underneath the 119 inch screen was installed. Removable ceiling panels were also installed to allow repairmen to access the basement’s plumbing. Other safety features that were installed include water sensors and a surveillance system that would allow viewers in the theater to see who is at the front door and other areas of the house. The screen is paired with a Sony VPL-VW60 projector, which features 900 ANSI lumens, a 35000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. [via Electronic House ]
