August 24th, 2010

Wavian is a technology licensing company developing long-life, high-performance light sources and engine prototypes for the projection and lighting industries. Today, the company announced a new mini projector that they say will be able to project 1000 ANSI lumens. The device doesn’t have a name yet, but it will use the latest in white LED lamps from Luminus. These lamps allow the projector to display a high brightness but also only use 50 watts of energy. “Wavien’s LED light recycling technology offers outstanding brightness by recovering and recycling high angle light from the LED that is normally wasted with traditional LED coupling systems,” stated Dr. Kenneth Li, President and CEO of Wavien, Inc., who is also the inventor of the recycling technology. Dr. Li added: “This unique design enables LED-based products to have increased total brightness by over 80%.” [via PR Newswire ]

BenQ is the world’s #1-selling DLP projector brand in the education market. Today, the company announced that four new will be released soon. The new models include the MP780 ST ($2099), MP778 , SP840 ($2999), and the SP890 ($3999), which was recently released in Japan. While most of these we have seen before, the newest of the bunch is the MP778. The only information that we have about this projector is that it has full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 3D display technology, and a microphone and USB connection. The SP840 and SP890 share the same HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, but also can display 4000 ANSI lumens. The SP890 can display a 50000:1 contrast ratio, while the SP840 only displays a 3000:1 contrast ratio. The MP780 ST only has WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, 2500 ANSI lumens, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. However, this model is the only one in the bunch that comes with a short throw lens. “Education is a deeply rooted passion at BenQ. Our mission of delivering the latest technology via the highest quality products at the best possible value is the ideal answer to the institution sector’s needs,” said Peter Chen, EVP and Manager of BenQ Technology Product Center. “Our extensive research and unparalleled insight into what teachers, administrators, and students desire once again gives BenQ the edge in creating class-leading that ignite the magic in teaching.” The SP890 and SP840 are already available worldwide, while the MP780 ST will release next month. Uniden ULP1000 Projector Review

June 18th, 2010

Sponsors

The Uniden ULP1000 is one of the world’s few laser pico . It features a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and a WVGA (848 x 480) resolution. Today, the writers from CNET reviewed the ULP1000 to see how well it works. The writers first compliment the size and weight of the projector. It can easily fit into a pocket, bag, or suitcase with out any problems. One thing that iPhone users might like is that the projector comes with iPhone/iPod cable to help add portability to the device. One thing that the writers didn’t like was the feel of the unit. All the accessories and the projector seemed to have a toy-like plastic feel to them. They also did not like the fact that all the accessories had to travel with the projector with no real case to put them in. They did however like the overall image quality and the fact that the projector could display onto any surface with needing refocused. The final comment that the writer made was, “For us, the portable projector, as an entire category of tech, feels like a solution without a problem. Given that a projector of this size isn’t capable of displaying an image to a room full of people, wouldn’t you be better off with an iPad you can pass around or a digital photo frame with a remote control? In both cases you’d end up with considerable change from the AU$999 you might have spent on this projector.” [via CNET ]

LG Claims HS201G Projector Popular in USA

May 10th, 2010

One of LG ’s pocket is the HS201G . This tiny device only weighs 1.8 lbs but it can display 200 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. Today, the company announced that this little projector has received rave reviews in the USA and has become a very popular projector. What is odd about this announcement is that LG has not provided any data in order to back this claim. Also the only announced release about the HS201G has been for the Middle East only. Even on LG’s USA website, the HS201G is not available to view, which makes this claim even more questionable. Hopefully LG will know these facts and release some estimated numbers. The HS201G is a stylish projector that looks like it was designed during the Deco Art era. The projector comes with an HDMI port as well as a USB port for PC-free presentations. LG has also included a wide array of features including DivX support, screen capture, and even a built-in FM transmitter for wireless sound capabilities. [via Akihabara News ]
