Holographic Heads Become Musical Instruments

February 25th, 2010

Sponsors

Click here to view the embedded video. We have seen holograms being used in the name of before. But this latest video is the first we have seen the holograms interacting with the musicians. The video shows Will Clark on the drums and JFB on the turntable. The major difference though is that they are creating with holographic heads. The heads interact with the musicians and give the impression that they are either on the turn wheels or they are actually getting hit by the Clark. The whole performance looks like a futuristic take on the singing heads from Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride. [via Gizmodo ]

Sound Scape System

February 18th, 2010

Are you looking for a more serene and peaceful feeling to your ? If so then you might be interested in the Sound Scape system. This stylish device is actually a sound system to play soothing music and sound effects. The circle on top opens up to reveal a speaker and a LED-based pico projector. The portions that come out of the speaker are actually parameter markers that tell the projector how big or small to make the screen. Sound Scape is able to detect the type of music that is being played and display scenic images to match. All of the images are based on nature and include clouds and water just to name a few. In addition, the device also has a tiny cylinder piece that is used as a remote control. The user controls the volume, track number, and when to start and stop by shaking the control. The downside about the Sound Scape is that it is only a concept design right now and there are no plans yet to build this device. [via Yanko Designs ]

Today California based Rusnak BMW recently hired Las Angeles based audio/video custom installation firm DSI Entertainment Systems to upgrade their facilities to include a dynamic audio and video presence. DSI has decided to use Digital Projection TITAN 1080p-700 to display digital messaging and high-definition video in key high-traffic locations. The Noteput Helps People Learn Music

February 18th, 2010

Click here to view the embedded video. Here is another touch screen program that was designed to help make our lives easier, the Noteput. This program uses a touch screen display that uses a projector mounted under it and a camera-based marker tracking system. Instead of using your fingers to control the program, you use wooden notes and other musical signs to control the screen. The program begins when you place the treble clef sign on the table. However, if you see in the video the bass clef is also possible, but not used. The clef opens a line and allows the user to place notes on to create a tune. When the user is finished, they can press the play button to hear the song or loop it to hear it over and over. The user can play the loop in order to adjust the notes to their liking. The Noteput is primarily designed to help teach kids musical notes and how to read by creating an interactive area. [via Gizmodo ]

The 404 Podcast 506: Where the Apple tablet is the most important thing we will ever do

January 28th, 2010

It smells like Apples in here. The day of reckoning is finally upon us and CNET has all your Apple coverage including a live blog to track the news as it comes through the pipe. These kids are way cooler than us. Thanks, Wade! (Credit: Wade Mackey) CNET’s The 404 Podcast is also on the job, so check out today’s episode for our predictions on what Steve Jobs has in store for the world. It better be good, especially if Jobs stayed awake all night inventing it. Jeff and I are able to approach it with a level head, but Wilson G. Tang is in full-blown Apple fanboy mode with the T-shirt and the Apple lip gloss all ready to go. Before we get into our predictions, Jeff shows us a surprising study that demonstrates pirates are the industry’s most valuable customers . We’re a little suspicious that the story comes from TorrentFreak.com, but they bring up a legitimate point that “sharers” (aka pirates) are actually likely to buy more digital as opposed to physical media in a store. In either case, the best way to support your favorite bands, signed or unsigned, is to buy a ticket to their live show and spend money on merchandise while you’re there. That way, your cash support goes directly into the pockets of the band, instead of the digital service taking a cut of the profit. Stick local! Clicky click click (Credit: CNET/The404) Next up we’ve got a story about the worst Facebook revenge , like, ever. It happens like this: teenage girl finds six-pack of beer in younger brother’s closet. Brother searches through sister’s closet and finds disturbingly detailed “hookup list” and publishes image of said list on Facebook . Wait, it gets way worse: the ultimate fatality is that he also tags every single guy on the list and starts an epic three-way flame war between brother, sister, and a group of guys that all have one thing in common. We end today’s show by going around the table and seriously (OK, not seriously at all) dishing out our Apple tablet predictions for the day. Spoiler alert: Jeff is hopeful for a game-centric device, Justin hopes you can connect a printer to it, and Wilson can’t even talk with all the saliva pouring out of his mouth.
