Is Apple’s iPod tune getting old?

September 2nd, 2010

Apple’s incredible success in the digital player category puts it in an odd position. Except for a few minor tweaks of design, it’s not clear how much more Apple can do with the category. Originally posted at Circuit Breaker

The 404 657: Where Santa Jobs and Kenley pay us a visit (podcast)

September 1st, 2010

Unfortunately Jeff can’t make it to the show today, but our good friend Kenley jumps into the hot seat to fill Wilson’s shoes while he pulls out his beautiful hair trying to play sound engineer for the day. Meanwhile, we’re making last minute predictions on what the Apple event will bring, so head over to CNET’s live blog for more details and in-depth post show coverage. The average e-mail user gets hundreds of message everyday, and while spam filters get rid of most of the junk, we’re still blasted with e-mails from work, mailing lists, Facebook, and more low-priority comments. Gmail recently rolled out a new solution to organize your messages called Priority Inbox . The Gmail feature automatically sorts your incoming e-mail into three sections: “important and unread,” “starred,” and “everything else,” and the idea is to target messages that aren’t outright spam but still aren’t important…Google cleverly calls this “bologne,” or BACN . The service also improves accuracy as you use it and will sort sort between senders you reply to and others that you just skip over, hopefully helping you sift through the piles of mail you get a day. We’ve seen plenty of strange Nintendo Wiimote accessories in the past, but the new detachable controller from a company called Mojowijo is by far the most NSFW. The device attaches to the Wii’s accessory port and uses Bluetooth to run wireless software that basically turns it into a partner-controlled “marital aid.” Its patent-pending “Motion2Vibration” technology transforms one user’s motions into vibrations signals that get sent to another selected device, even if they’re in another part of the country. Get it? Thanks again to everyone who entered our JetBlue All You Can Jet contest! We’ve selected two winners for the seven-day and five-day passes and will announce their names on tomorrow’s show where we’ll welcome hypnotist Paul Ramsay back into the studio! On his last appearance he hypnotized me into forgetting my name, so who knows what’ll happen tomorrow- tune in at 11:30 a.m. ET to find out! Crave 16: Where my baby daddy? (podcast)

September 1st, 2010

It may not be a creepy Kaspar baby, but the lead item on today’s show is its very own brand of disturbing: a belly band that plays to an unborn child. It’s not the product that bothers Donald and Jasmine, though…it’s the eerily happy mother and absentee dad. Also this week: a fan-tastic subwoofer, a new MP3 player that is not a phone, and some sweet street art in Portland, Ore., that Mario-loving cyclists are sure to appreciate. Plus, we get some viewer feedback and sort of drool over this week’s heart attack-inducing foodstuff. Subscribe in iTunes SD Video |? Subscribe in RSS SD Video …

Get Him to the Greek Blu-ray includes a free streaming copy — of a different movie

August 25th, 2010

Universal’s added a new wrinkle to persuade people to buy Get Him to the Greek on Blu-ray — throw in a copy of an entirely different movie. Sure, during the MTV Video Awards we imagined not having to watch Russell Brand was a feature that should be included more often, but we didn’t expect to see it tucked in among these other Blu-ray exclusive extras — karaoke, the Pocket BLU iPhone remote control app, social BLU access, Mobile-To-Go support for taking bonus content with you and keyboard support. Anyone who buys the flick between September 28 and March 31, 2011 can also gain access to one of the following movies streamed to the player over BD-Live or directly to their mobile phone: Uncle Buck , Dazed & Confused or Life (Eddie Murphy & Martin Lawrence, not David Attenborough .) The flicks are notable not only because they appear to have been randomly chosen, but also since they’re not available on Blu-ray yet. Unlike The Office , there’s no promise of HD resolution here so the quality is still in question, but really, what Blu-ray release couldn’t use an extra dose of John Candy? Check out all the details and extras in the press release after the break. Crave 15: Oceanic seduction (podcast)

August 25th, 2010

Crave’s on fire this week with plenty of pseudo-inappropriate comments that may make you think you’re listening to that other CNET podcast . But don’t fret: We keep things just this side of decent with a hand-crank car driven by a beatnik (to new age dance , no less), a super awesome garbage can made from repurposed trash, and an adorably annoying alarm clock that is will provide endless drunken entertainment at your next party. Things start to go a little off the deep end when we take a look at a flash drive preloaded with porn and wax poetic about a unique boat that–as Eric so aptly notes–”unzips the pants of the ocean.” Finally, this week’s fat-inducing food mashup disgusts Jasmine so much that she almost drops an F-bomb. Pacific Media Associates Predicts Big Numbers for 3D Projectors

August 11th, 2010

Sponsors

Today’s projector prediction was released by the Pacific Media Associates. Their study focuses on the rapidly growing number of 3D Ready that are joining the market. The company predicts that by the year 2014 there will be more than 5.4 million 3D Ready on the market. Breaking down that number, PMA says that most of the 5.4 million will use DLP technology provided by Texas Instruments Dr. William Coggshall, president of PMA says, “Being 3D-ready does not mean that a projector will actually be used in a 3D mode. Initial expectations by projector industry participants centered on the education market because of its overall importance. And certainly 3D can offer big gains in both comprehensions for certain subjects and student attention capturing. Education budgets are however, always under pressure and the cost of the total solution, which can include relatively expensive glasses and content, can be high.” [via Electronic House ]
