OO HD wireless projector concept reaches for the stars, almost grabs ‘em (video)

March 11th, 2010

David Riesenberg obviously had his head in the clouds when he dreamed up the OO High Definition Wireless Projector, but it’s not like we’re kvetching about his imagination’s ability to go far beyond the limits of most humans. For one thing, the concept 1080p projector looks (and lands ) like a stunning orange UFO; for another, the specs are otherwordly. Should the device ever come to market, Reisenberg says it will pack SSD storage, WiFi and internal decoder chips into its svelte, 11-inch round carbon fiber frame, as well as three independently articulated legs for balance and a Li-ion battery for up to three hours of cord-free HD streaming and playback. Did we mention it’s got a matching touchscreen remote? And our deepest affection, forever and ever? See what we’re drooling over in Riesenberg’s subtle video homage to a certain interstellar piano waltz right after the break. The LG eXpo was supposed to be the first projector phone to be released by a major manufacturer. But just as quickly as it was released it seems that it has disappeared. For a while the stores only reported that they were out of stock, but recently the product has been pulled completely off the shelves. Both LG and AT&T state that they pulled the device because of such a high demand. However, the company that manufactured the eXpo’s fingerprint sensor feature states that the phone had major problems with its antennae. There is no word yet from anyone if the eXpo will return to the consumer market. [via Splash Phone ]

Click here to view the embedded video. Most concept designs for usually puts the device into some crazy designs. The new OO projector from Yanko Designs is an elegant design that looks like the head of a pit droid from Star Wars. The chassis is built from semi monocoque carbon fiber and is incredibly durable. Unfortunately the creator didn’t add any image specs, but they did say that the OO would feature a completely wireless system. The projector would be able to stream HD (1920 x 1080) resolution through a WiFi or internal SSD storage. The projector will be completely wireless with only needing a connection to charge the 3 hour internal battery. The remote is a simple touch screen pad that has the futuristic feel to it. The projector also has its own tripod that remotely comes out of the bottom like a UFO. The OO definitely looks like it would be a fun projector to own, but sadly it’s only a concept at this time. Mitsubishi HC6800 Projector Review

March 10th, 2010

One of Mitsubishi ’s home theater is the HC6800 . This model features an impressive 30000:1 contrast ratio, 1500 ANSI lumens, and 1080p HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, the writers from Home Theater Magazine released their review of this projector. The first thing the writers comment about is the . The HC6800 comes with a slightly curved chassis with recessed connection panel that is hard to reach if you mount it to the ceiling. The writers put the projector through a number of image quality tests and the only concern that they had was with the black levels. They found that the HC6800 could not go below black, which makes adjusting the image difficult. The writers were happy with the HC6800’s noise level. The 20 dB noise level is quiet enough to keep from being heard during movies. The final conclusion about the HC6800 was, “Overall, the Mitsubishi produces a pleasing picture on most sources. Even with the auto iris engaged, dark, low-contrast scenes are hazy enough to be distracting. In a direct comparison with the Epson, the latter’s superiority in shadow detail was painfully obvious. But things aren’t quite that simple. Even at roughly half the price, the Mitsubishi’s resolution of detail was noticeably crisper than the Epson’s. Resolution alone isn’t quite enough for me to push it over the top. Dark scene performance and contrast are too important to me. But with its very attractive pricing (apart from a rather high lamp-replacement cost), respectable performance on most program material, and striking detail on the best sources, the Mitsubishi just might work for you.” [via Home Theater Magazine ]

JVC DLA-RS35U Projector Review

March 8th, 2010

The JVC DLA-RS35U projector is one of the company’s many high quality home theater models. It comes with 900 ANSI lumens, 1080p HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and an impressive 70000:1 contrast ratio. Today, the writers from Projector Reviews got the opportunity to release their review of the RS35U. The writers were happy to test the RS35U mainly because it recently won a Hot Product Award and because it’s the predecessor of the DLA-RS25U , which was another quality projector that the writers reviewed. One of the first things they mention about is the projector placement. The RS35U comes with a lot of adjustment room and has several features to help. Another quality they liked was the projector’s brightness. The RS35U is not as bright as several other home theater models, but the light system used is incredible air tight and doesn’t allow any light to leak out. This means that the image is getting the full brightness of the lamp. When the writers were done they realized that the RS35U doesn’t have any major weaknesses. The brightness and contrast could use some improvement, but they were considered minor. In the end they stated, “If you’ve got the funds on hand, I’d suggest you either plunk down for the JVC RS35, or, better still, transfer the money into my checking account, and I’ll buy one, and provide you an occasional report on how much I’m enjoying “your” home theater projector.” [via Projector Review ]

Hitachi CP-DW10N Projector Review

March 6th, 2010

Sponsors

One of the latest projectors to be released by Hitachi was the CP-DW10N . This projector features 2000 ANSI lumens, a 400:1 contrast ratio, and WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. Recently, the writers from PC World released their review of this short throw projector. The writers were really impressed with the projector’s short throw distance. This allowed the projector to display up to a 120” display from only 7 feet away. This makes the projector ideal for cramped rooms or for educators who want to have the projector out of their eyes. After looking that the projector they notice the wide selection of connection options. They were happy to see that the projector came with HDMi as well as the other standard connections. After setting up, the writers noticed that the projector produced a lot of noise that could be distracting to some people. To make matters worse if you turned up the speakers to overcome the fan, the audio would start to distort and cause problems. But even with these problems the writers did note that the image was very detailed and the quality was sharp and clear. The final comment that was made was, “Hitachi’s CP-DW10N is a convenient projector for smaller business meeting rooms thanks to its short-throw lens, crisp picture quality and reasonably high widescreen resolution. It may be a little loud at its default settings, but if you can bear to run it in low brightness mode it becomes quite an attractive package.” [via PC World ]

When most people build their own home theater the results is usually something simple. But Paul Snyder decided to go all out and turn his spare bedroom into a theater, literally. Paul is a visual artist by trade and he is used to detail. He knew exactly what he wanted the theater to be and decided to build it from scratch. Everything from the molding to ticket booth was hand crafted. The home theater resembles a classic theater that includes a red and gold color scheme that gives the room a very elegant feel. The most remarkable aspect of the theater is the life sized manikins that Paul created and sculpted to look like some of his favorite movie characters. Some of the figures include Jack Sparrow at the ticket booth, Frank Sinatra swinging from the ceiling, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Darth Vadar, and the Terminator. Paul decided to include 12 original theater seats that sit guests in front of the 110 inch screen. Photodigm Looks to Fix Laser Pico Projectors

March 5th, 2010

Laser projection systems are the latest technology to come to the pico projector industry. However, US-based company, Photodigm has stated that the projector industry is on the wrong track. Photodigm has been producing precision lasers since 2000 and they have just recently taken a look at the laser projector engine. They were looking for ways to increase the engine’s efficiency while keeping it cost effective. Most of the companies in the past have stated that the main problem has been with the green laser. After looking at the system, Photodigm determined that it wasn’t the laser at all, but instead the problem was with the RGB module. The company also stated that they have fixed the problem with their own engine and intends to deliver a module that is cheap, efficient, scalable, and compact. Photodigm plans to release their projector engine sometime in 2011. [via Pico Projector Info ]
